All boys have heroes. Now let's analyze them and see which ones would smile for the camera....

Will you smile before going into a blazing house? Are u a freaking maniac?

Does he?

Will they?

A smirk maybe...

Not before we give it to them krauts...

Will he?...it?....whatever....

So, do boys have a problem with smiling for the camera?

Definately NOT! We just think it's uncool to do it ;-)
....ok except for Michael Tee and Daniel Yap....not sure what they were smiling about though...

OK, fast forward a few more years, and a bit of a tweak to the hormone mixtures. To the time when we now think that the photos would be seen by the likes of....

...and their classmates....

Hence lots of kilowatt smile, enough to power up a small town.

Yes, it quite obvious some of those Colgate models got lucky the previous week. Click on the picture to ID them.

Who I bummed into...

I was recently in Singapore for the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon and was waiting for the bus back to KL at the HarbourFront when I saw our dear friend Patrick Yeo walking towards me. He being an employee of the sponsoring bank had participated in the 10km run as well! So there we were both aching from our runs in the morning catching up on each other and coincidentally he had the seat behind mine.

Thanks Pat, for the ride back.

KL/PJ TT session...

After a short discussion with our just returned Patrick Ng and Shien Wei, we've decided to have a small get together among our ex-classmates in Klang Valley this Saturday (24/11) somewhere in SS2.

1. CKG - attending
2. OoiSW - attending
3. ChongHS - will reply on Thursday
4. PatrickNg - should be attending
5. JasonL - No, had plans arranged
6. AdrianChan - No reply
7. Joshua Tay -
8. Roger Lim -

Did I miss anyone? Sorry, if I did, or if anyone of you are visiting KL during that weekend, just drop me a note ok?

Edited 28 November 2007: The gathering was postponed because only HwaSiong can turn up, with Patrick coming in after his annual dinner. ShienWei FFK because he had to work late trying to ensure AirAsia's plane goes out with the recommended number of engines.

The importance of education....

Now as more and more of you are becoming parents to not one but TWO kids (and some may have more), let the article below be a reminder to all of you the necessity of teaching "the birds and the bees".......very early on......and include a peak into your vast collection of internet porn!

Maybe the good ol' doctor KKLi could give us an insight into this problem plaguing our neighbours down south (pun very much intended).

Singaporeans blur on sex

MANY Singaporeans have been seeking help from doctors on how to have sexual intercourse, Sin Chew Daily reported yesterday.

Singapore Thomson Medical Centre (TMC) founder Dr Cheng Wei Chen said the hospital received several people every month, mostly university graduates, seeking their guidance on how to “do it”.

Its urology senior consultant Dr Lin Fa Cai said he once treated a woman who was married for 10 years and supposedly had sex more than 1,000 times, but was still a virgin.

Dr Lin said the husband, who had a doctorate degree, and his wife, who complained of being unable to conceive, sought help at the hospital.

“The couple told me they had sex about three times a week but when I examined the wife, her hymen was still intact.

“He had a doctorate degree but zero knowledge on sex,” he said.

Another doctor, who declined to be named, said a couple in their 30s sought help from Mount Elizabeth Hospital and Medical Centre for failing to conceive after seven years of marriage.

He said he found no problem with the couple but later discovered that the husband withdrew just before ejaculating.

Ratatouille!

I re-read the old satay chelup post where KG mentioned about posting various makan places (new and old) in Malacca so out-of-towners like myself can go to try... So any contributions guys?? I 'll start the ball rolling with the new satay chelup place we visited 2 moons ago..

Place: Ujong Pasir- the old post office shop house before turning into Taman Sinn

Food: Forget about the copy cat versions in KL and Singapore with plain boiled water or the Mala Hotpot from China, this is the pure unadulterated Malacca version that we all Malaccans have been brought up to eat. Like Ratatouille is to the French, together with the old si hum with kangkung dish, this is our version of 'peasant' food - and how we folks like them ! Of course the more 'atas' city folks may call this version 'unhygienic' due to the common dipping technique involved and goodness knows when the shopkeeper has last changed the dipping sauce- but hey folks, if this don't toughen up your stomach, nothing much else will. Just make sure you guys have your Hepatitis A vaccination up to scratch and have plenty of charcoal tabs on standby in case the unthinkable happens...
But seriously folks, althought the satay chelup is nothing much to crow about as compared to other more established places ie. in Ong Kim Wee or the one opposite UE pau shop, this one is definitely much less crowded and is ideal for a bit of tete-a-tete after the makan instead of having prospective customers hovering around your elbows hoping to 'chope' your table. Variety wise, I feel it is adequate thought not extravagant and the dipping sauce wise is neither too sweet or too hot - the chili wise.

Service: Friendly shop keeper/ proprietor who is quite willing to top up our dipping sauce ..maybe also because there is not many other customers yet, although we were there at 9.30 pm. And I also noted his thoughtfulness when ta pao-ing some pieces of the satay for our makan companion while offering to put in some sauce as well- not many people do that though.

Wallet: Does it it this part of the anatomy hard? Can't remember this part much especially as to the cost per stick. All I can say is that for a post dinner makan for a group of 2 guys and 3 women and 1 growing boy, the damage done is about RM$60. I do think this is about the average.

Only in Malacca - MBO boleh!

Last Friday, 6 of us hopped into MBO hoping to catch a midnight screening of "Chuck & Larry". There were 4 movies on but no Chuck or Larry or any gay movies. We simply asked and they actually opened up a cinema for us! Now did that make us all gay or what! However, due to the centralised air-con and only 6 of us (+ 2 strangers), we were all “stiff” by the end of the show.

In case some of you don’t know what MBO stands for, it’s supposed to be Malaysia Box Office. In this case, Movie By Order! Oh yeah, senior citizens only pay RM5 for any show, any day, any time. MBO boleh!
Er,… boleh untung or not is another story lah.

You know guys, if they survive by the time we qualify as senior citizens, we can have a movie reunion kind of thingy… cheap cheap!

Pontianak!

Haven’t had a chance to blog this till now…

Anyway, one of those draggy early mornings, my colleague and I passed this traffic light junction in front of a mini waterfall near Jaya Jusco on the way to work. A huge clump of white stuff flew past and caught our eyes. My colleague shouted, “Pontianak!” There were a few flying about and some got stuck in the trees. (Hey, you can’t seriously believe they were pontianaks, right?) It was only after a while had we come to realise what they were - foam and soap bubbles. Someone actually turned the waterfall into a bubble bath! The stuff was overflowing like crazy and the clumps that were flying about distracted some passing vehicles. For a full report, check:

And, some of us thought Malacca’s not “happening”…

Beyonce treat for fans in KL
By ELIZABETH LOOI

Beyonce: She’s a songwriter, model, record producer, dancer and fashion designer.PETALING JAYA: Beyonce, one of the world’s biggest rhythm and blues stars, will perform in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 1.

Malaysia will be one of the stops, besides Thailand, for the award-winning singer’s debut appearance in South-east Asia.

Pineapple Concerts chairman Razlan Ahmad Razali said Beyonce’s management had agreed to stage a concert in Malaysia.

“We are now working out details, such as the terms and conditions and the venue,” he told The Star in an interview.

Pineapple Concerts is well known for bringing big bands into the country, including Earth, Wind and Fire and Grammy winner Kanye West earlier this year.

Beyonce Knowles, 26, rose to stardom as the lead singer of all-girl trio Destiny’s Child in the late 1990s.

She released her debut solo album in 2003 and grabbed five Grammy Awards the following year.

Beyonce’s latest album, B’Day, won her another Grammy this year – making it her 10th in all – in the Best Contemporary R&B Album category.

She has also won awards for hits such as Deja Vu (which she also recorded in Spanish), Beautiful Liar (a duet with Shakira) and Irreplaceable, and led the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards with seven nominations.

Beyonce has acted in several movies, among them Austin Powers in Goldmember, The Pink Panther and Dreamgirls.

Dreamgirls garnered her nominations for Best Actress in Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, and Best Original Song (Listen).

She is also a songwriter, model, record producer, dancer and fashion designer.

KUALA LUMPUR: R&B star Beyonce Knowles has scrapped plans to stage her first concert in Malaysia amid speculation she objected to a strict dress code barring sexy attire, industry officials said Monday.

Knowles will instead head for neighbouring Indonesia, which although also Muslim has less stringent rules about how performers should dress and behave.

Knowles' Los Angeles-based talent agency, International Creative Management, said her Nov 1 date with Kuala Lumpur had to be broken “due to a scheduling conflict,'' according to an ICM statement made available by Malaysian entertainment organisers Pineapple Concerts.

The announcement followed recent speculation that Knowles, famous for her sexy image and skimpy outfits, was reluctant to fulfil the Malaysian government's demand for female performers to cover up from the top of their chests to their knees, including their shoulders.

“It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of The Beyonce Experience World Tour in Kuala Lumpur,'' the ICM statement said.

“It was to mark the very first time the performer would bring her show to Malaysia.''
Knowles will perform in Jakarta instead on Nov 1, the statement said, adding that Knowles “is looking forward to performing for all her fans in Kuala Lumpur in the near future.''

Pineapple Concerts chairman Razlan Ahmad Razali said his company, which has brought Western acts such as Kanye West and Earth, Wind and Fire to Malaysia, was “disappointed and frustrated.''

Razlan declined to comment on the rumours that Knowles balked at Malaysia's decency code. However, he noted that besides Indonesia, Knowles is now slated to travel over the next month to many other Asian countries, including Thailand, China and India. – AP

The above title is a homage to an ancient computer game that I played while still in the school ie. Where in the world is Carmen San Diego? (you guys remember that?)

So where in the world is CKG right now???

(A) Dancing with the Wolves in the American mid-west?

(B) Crouching like a Tiger, when not walking on tree tops in the Middle Kingdom?

(C) showing off a pair of Happy dancing Feet in the South Pole?

(D) cavorting in the Mist of some Gorillas in Timbuktu?

(E) Chasing the proverbial Dragon in the golden triangle ?

PS: Ok, folks start reminiscing your favourite games during child/ teen hood now...

Merdeka Book Review

Ok folks, in the spirit of our Merdeka Golden Jubilee today, lets try something different today- ie. a book review.

I have just finished reading the book " The Reluctant Politician" - basically a biography of one of the least understood and a "could-have-been" 3rd PM of Malaysia if not for his untimely death in 1973: Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman.

What attracted me are 2 things. One, why the lack of infomation on Dr Ismail from our pre-historic (no pun intended) text books? Yes, plenty of mention of TAR and his "Looking Back" and Tun Razak and his DEB/ NEP. But no credits of the then DPM of Malaysia from 1971-1973. Two, excerpts from this book mentioned his role in the aftermath of the May 13th 1969 - another pet interest of mine for the reason that it is also conveniently 'blanco-ed' from our official history.

The book started off in a shocking manner describing how the then Acting PM (since Tun Razak was away overseas) stumbled to his death after a heart attack at home, all alone. It then retraces his beginnings in Johor Bahru as a son of a local politician with 8 other siblings and 9 adopted Chinese sisters..

It then describes how he quit his 3rd year of medical school in Singapore after he refuses to give away his dance partner to his anatomy professor in a cabaret. He later lambasted the college as being " operated by a bunch of Gestapos" and continued a further 5 years of study in Melbourne. In between the serious stuff, more merry making ensued, ranging from simple countryside hiking to wine and women.

Upon returning to our shores and after a brief fling as a GP in JB, the lure of politics and the Merdeka spirit proved irresistible as he joined the government first as Malaya's 1st ambassador to the USA & UN and later as Minister of Internal Security & Minister of Home Affairs.

At the end of his tenure, the lasting impression I got is that he is like a version of the "Justice Pao' of 1960-70s Malaysian politics. According to his good childhood friend Robert Kuok (Malaysia's richest man now): " he is a man of strong character, high principles and great sense of fairness...probably the most non racial and non racist Malay I've ever met. Doc was a stickler of total fair play and correctness. Every Malay colleague fear him because of this, including Mahathir". People who ran afoul of the law irregardless, will feel the strong arm of the ISA- he even declared he will throw his own mother in jail if she did anything illegal ! His admirers range from LKY to TAR to Musa Hitam to Lim Kit Siang (though he did throw him into jail once) to our current PM.

All in all, a very good read. For history buffs like me it provided a good way to fill that little spot in our nation's history that up to now had remained empty. Personally, I think that Tun Ismail's role in our history was downplayed significantly not least because in his line of his duty, he had stepped on to many a people's shoes including getting a certain Dr M thrown out of the party.

So next up.. a book that has been banned in Malaysia: Alias Chin Peng- my side of history !
